Department Of Transportation Evaluations
This return-to-duty service if for those who work in the federally regulated transportation industry and are mandated to randomly drug test under rule 49 CFR Part 40. An evaluation is required if an employee tests positive on a drug/alcohol test or refuses to test in order for the employee to be able to return to safety sensitive work.
Public safety is of the upmost importance. Therefore, a special certification as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is necessary in order to conduct these evaluations along with my credentials as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
The evaluation process begins with an initial assessment to determine the steps the employee will be required to take before being eligible to return to safety sensitive work. This assessment must be conducted face to face with the employee. After the initial evaluation, I will determine what type of treatment or education you will need to complete. Once the requirements are met, there is a follow-up session to determine if you have complied with my recommendations. If you have complied, I will write a letter of compliance. If you have not complied I will write a letter of non-compliance. You will have to comply before you are eligible to return to safety sensitive duty.
What will be expected of you to complete will depend on the results of the initial evaluation. It could be, but is not limited to, attendance in Self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, educational community lectures on alcohol and drugs, outpatient counseling sessions, intensive outpatient treatment or inpatient treatment.
I will do my best to set up an appointment within a few days of contact.
